While feeding the neighborhood wildlife may seem like an attractive idea, doing this is strictly prohibited for important reasons.
Feeding wildlife causes them to become accustomed to the presence of humans, and cease to fear and avoid us. This is a problem for two main reasons; the safety of people as well as the animals themselves.
Animals that do not fear humans are more likely to wander on to roads and be struck by vehicles, damage property, and approach people. Wildlife that learns to expect food from humans may become frustrated or confused when all humans do not offer it something to eat, which can lead to dangerous encounters. Additionally, leaving food outdoors can attract bears.
It is crucial to the health and safety of everyone in Forest Park that emergency vehicles can reliably access all areas of the neighborhood - a car parked in the street could slow down or entirely prevent the passing of an ambulance or fire truck.
Vehicles parked in the road can easily result in a street becoming too narrow for other vehicles to pass, dangerously limit visibility around curves, and put both pedestrians and other cars at risk.
